There are in fact worse things than sitting in front of a blank screen or piece of paper - sitting in front of a partially written group of documents, trying desperately to put together that, frankly, doesn't suck. It's easy to put together a list of rambling thoughts - that's the joy of this world of eternal blogging and commenting on the world as it happens - we pick a topic and ramble to our hearts content. In this, we forget about deadlines and research and thought processes and trying to crank something out that ... doesn't suck. It doesn't matter how good a writer you are, or how much you want to work on a project, those half finished columns about Assistive Technology or the Benefit Dinner or hell, the sports column you might have to write for ESPN or Yahoo!Sports (are you listening powers that be) can suddenly become a chore rather than a joy. It's moments like these that make the hives break out and the stress levels climb and the ironic thing is that I can sit here and write about not being able to write but I can't actually get the focus together to work on that newsletter.
Its not that it's an uninteresting newsletter to work on. There's an article on the Legislative Reception hosted by the Legislative Coalition for People with Disabilities and the announcement about UILC opening its new Life Skills Center (yay!). The program spotlight is on the Assistive Technology program with a sidebar about the partnership UILC has built with Globus Relief to provide high quality Assistive Technology for 85% of cost. Getting someone a walker for $9 is awesome. And, I think I'm going to cheat and make the consumer spotlight about someone that I work with on a regular basis. He's gone from homelessness to working for the Department of Workforce Services. I try to stay away from the programs that I work in simply because it's too easy to fall into that trap, but it's the best option, really.
So it isn't like the ideas aren't there, but the words however are being picky. The curse of the writer.
A new wrinkle ...
